WHO AM I?

Hello, I'm Ankit Pruthi and I'm a Computer Graphics Generalist and VFX Lead with 14+ years of work in the film and television industry, with extensive exposure to projects including but not limited to

movies, advertisements and VR.

WHAT DO I DO?

I create high quality simulations, both realistic and stylized, ranging anywhere from smoke, fire and destruction to fluids and even highly controlled particle fx.

Being a generalist, I also have ample experience as a lighting and shading artist in both high end vfx and full CG sequences.

HOW DO I DO IT?

My key software expertise is Houdini, with Redshift, Karma and Mantra being the render engines of choice, and Nuke fulfilling all compositing needs. This combination has worked extremely well for all the complex productions I have been on. Aside from that, I have also used Blender and Photoshop on smaller scale productions and projects.

'This is the Ent' is a new show format from Quarks, a television program by WDR Fernsehen.

 

MY BEHIND-THE-SCENES SORCERY

Was involved through the entire pipeline, right from ideation, storyboarding and staging, all the way to rendering out a lot of the scenes. Early involvement to keep technical challenges in mind while writing the scenes ensured that none of the episodes took more than 4-6 weeks to deliver.

THE SIMULATED WORLD

Developed procedural workflows and systems to automate look development and shader assignments, while keeping a heavily art directed colour palette to keep all the scenes across various episodes as consistent as possible, thereby maintaining high quality visuals and aesthetics. 

 

Developed shaders for assets spread across all the episodes and tools for making "voxelized" asset elements such as trees, landscapes, fire etc.

 

Also supervised the team of Houdini artists and guided them through lighting stage, art directing shots, along with personally lighting several sequences. Fx for nuclear explosions and wildfires.

ENT'S REAL WORLD

Simulation and rendering of fx elements such as cloth and fire. Look development and lighting of several additional elements.
